Naturopath in Mt Warren Park

close up of woman with hand on heartNaturopathy is about allowing your body to naturally heal through balancing the physical, emotional, energetic, and spiritual bodies. Instead of relying on medication, naturopathy may use any of the following: Western and Chinese herbs, nutritional medicine (vitamins and minerals), diet, aromatherapy, flower essences, meditation, Yoga, and physical therapy.

Getting to the Root Cause

Naturopathy takes a functional medicine approach. Ultimately, the goal of Naturopathy is to resolve, diagnose, or pick up on the root causes and address them. That’s in contrast to allopathic medicine, which is symptom-based. So if you have a headache, you’d take a painkiller. Our approach for someone seeking help with a migraine would be to identify the appropriate herbal or nutritional medicine to assist short term with symptoms, but ultimately we are seeking the root cause or driver – we then address this as the primary intervention.

While we want to alleviate your pain, it’s also crucial to investigate why you’re getting the pain in the first place. A hormonal issue may be to blame or it could be an emotional trigger. In the end, we seek to balance acute symptom relief with long-term healing.

What to Expect

The first step is to schedule a 60-minute consultation with Carly. Upon booking, we will email you an online questionnaire to complete prior to your appointment. This first consultation can be a face-to-face meeting on Wednesdays at her office in Mt Warren Park in Queensland. She also provides the option of a Zoom or Telehealth appointment, if preferred, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

If you have any recent pathology or documents, you can upload them before your appointment. During the consultation, you will discuss with Carly your health background. She’ll review any pathology or reports, make a diagnosis (if enough information is accessible), determine the next steps, and discuss her approach to care.
If you don’t have much or any pathology to share with Carly that can assist with determining root causes or areas key to addressing, she can write a pathology script or letter to your doctor so you can get more taken. Carly has accounts with all major Pathology labs in Australia, as well as private labs.

Please check with your health fund to determine if you have ‘Nutritional consultations’ rebated.

At this visit, Carly will let you know what protocols she recommends based on new pathology and diagnosis, which will be customised to meet your unique needs. If any advice was given in the Initial consultation, a review of progress is also discussed.

Carly will have you come back two weeks later for a follow-up to ensure you haven’t had any problems with the protocol.

She will review the results to change the care plan if needed, and continue to adapt the protocol according to your symptoms or desired health outcomes.

After that, appointments are spaced out according to people’s unique needs.

Do you see kids?

While children may benefit from Naturopathy, Carly typically prefers to send kids to homeopaths because they’re easier to treat homeopathically than they are Naturopathically. However for children with gut issues, Carly can recommend probiotics and Gut formulas that are kid-friendly along with diet advice.

Do any of the naturopathic remedies interact with medication?

There are certain elements of Western medicine that are contraindicated. That’s why Carly always has an initial consultation with each patient and asks them to bring a list of their current prescribed medications.

Do you work with labs in Australia?

Yes, Carly has accounts with all pathology labs across Australia. With Naturopaths, they’re all privately billed. She can still write the referrals to go to the labs and have the blood drawn or the sample taken.

Does insurance cover Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is not covered, however Nutrition is covered with some private health companies. Consultations are invoiced as Nutrition consultations. You will need to check for Nutrition coverage with your fund.

Do you offer a prescription filling service?

Yes, Carly will load up a prescription with a supplier, and patients can purchase products according to the protocol directly from the supplier, and they are shipped to them. So it’s a practical way to get their product from one place.

How often will I need to see you?

Typically, after about six months, most patients only come in once a year or on an as-needed basis.

Will you work with my GP?

Carly can collaborate with your GP if there’s a desire for the patient and the GP is willing to work with Carly.
